The Smoke Evacuation System is designed to prevent the dangers of surgical smoke in the operating environment for doctors, nurses and patients alike. The smoke evacuator has improved technology to make use quieter and easier, and delivers a highly effective method of collecting and filtering smoke produced during either open or laparoscopic procedures.

How the Smoke Evacuation System Works

The system offers a smoke collection tube that slips over the electrosurgery pencil at the surgeon’s hand. This allows the tube to move wherever the surgeon’s hand moves, keeping it ideally positioned to collect and filter smoke during the procedure. A high speed, brushless motor helps create suction pressure up to five times greater than other evacuators, quietly pulling smoke particles expelled from the surgical site and capturing them before they can escape. The brushless motor also does not cause interference with other devices in the operating room by means of electromagnetic energy.

Why the Smoke Evacuation System?

The use of smoke evacuators is strongly recommended by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses to protect staff against smoke plumes created by electrocautery devices. As more states move toward legislating plume-free surgical procedures1 the Smoke Evacuation System is an important tool to maintain compliance and create a safe working environment.

  • Charcoal filter made exclusively with granulated coconut charcoal, most effective for removing volatile organic compounds

STERIS ESU Pencils

  • 12 ESU Pencil configurations available in telescoping, non-telescopic, stainless steel, and non-stick
  • Options with integrated smoke evacuation mechanisms enable the surgeon to vary length of electrode
  • Shroud attachments help create an invisible barrier to trap smoke particles

System Sensors

  • Laser Sensor utilizes convenient foot pedal to activate the smoke evacuator
  • RF Sensor is the first automatic system for surgical smoke detection and evacuation
  • Capable of detecting any cutting device and simultaneously activating the smoke evacuator

Tubing

  • Laparoscopic Tubing helps improve OR team’s vision during surgery and keeps patient from absorbing smoke during a closed procedure
  • Speculum Tubing can be used for gynecological procedures to help eliminate smoke plumes that may contain harmful pathogens
  • Shroud clips onto the ESU pencil to begin capturing smoke immediately at the source
