Product Overview

The truFreeze System in conjunction with the Aire PV cryotherapy passive venting catheter is an ablation technology used to ablate/destroy benign and malignant tissue to improve and preserve airway patency.

Pulmonary Ablation Applications:

The truFreeze System for bronchoscopic cryotherapy in conjunction with the Aire PV endoscopic spray catheter may be used for passive venting procedures for both benign and malignant pulmonary applications:

Airway Applications

How does the truFreeze System and Aire PV Catheter work?

By taking advantage of liquid nitrogen’s unique, cryogenic properties, the truFreeze System uses a non-contact spray of liquid nitrogen at -196˚C flash freezing cells/tissue with water content causing intracellular crystal formation.

With spray cryotherapy, tissue destruction is associated with the preservation of the extracellular matrix and regenerative growth of the tissue, which may allow healing with decreased or minimal fibrosis.

Mechanism of Action

What is Passive Venting?

Passive venting is used during bronchoscopy procedures and involves the natural diffusion of gas from the ablation area when using cryotherapy. It may be used with a vent tube when delivering spray cryotherapy proximal to a resistor where the lumen is open. Passive venting can be achieved by using an appropriately sized vent area or venting into the atmosphere. The diameter of the area through which gas vents passively must be adequate to ensure distention does not occur.

Why use the truFreeze System and Aire PV Catheter?

Liquid nitrogen spray cryotherapy for airway disease offers the following clinical benefits:

  • Improved Airway Patency: Studies have shown significant improvement in luminal caliber and often a longer period before reintervention.
  • Regenerative Healing Response: Airway spray cryotherapy promotes non-scarring wound healing and normal tissue growth.
  • Non-Contact: Ablate tissue of various shapes, nodularities, and sizes and treat larger areas of tissue relative to contact therapies.
  • Hemostasis: Extreme cold controls bleeding and causes vascular stasis.
  • Complimentary: Liquid nitrogen application may not adversely affect complementary therapies, such as stents, balloons, and blood thinners, providing greater treatment flexibility without limiting future therapeutic options.
